FEPS wins Previsions Print Competition 2007

On 9 December 2007 a group of FEPS members took their seats at the annual Previsions event organised by XRR and held at their well-appointed meeting place in Garston. A large number of photographic clubs from the area were taking part and it was clear from the beautiful prints which were displayed in the hall and in the corridor outside that the standard of entries would be very high. The judge, Chris Palmer, had no easy task on his hands to find those images with that extra special quality.

This was borne out when the digital entries were displayed. The class was won by Oxford Photographic Society with some wonderful and unusual images, most of which scored a maximum 20 points.

tree at dawn The print class reached a nail biting finish with FEPS and XRR on top with equal points. What to do? After a brief discussion it was decided to award the trophy to FEPS as FEPS member Chris Wallace had won the prize for the best print in the competition with this stunning image "West Hyde Trees at Easter". Chris' success was richly deserved, particularly as he had got out of a warm bed well before sunrise on a number of mornings to capture the scene when the light was just right. And who would guess that the M25 thunders by not far away from the apparently tranquil scene. This image was shown on the BBC's One Show as well as featuring in the local paper. Well done Chris!

The Previsions event was rounded off in the evening with a very interesting talk by Roger Reynolds on India, illustrated by some superb photographs of people and places. Previsions is a very enjoyable and entertaining event. Many thanks to XRR for all the hard work which goes into organising such a successful day. We look forward very much to the 2008 event.
